Commissioned by Toneelhuis and developed in collaboration with graphic designer Jelle Jespers / Ntrakt, i.s.m.architecten reworked the neoclassical entrance hall of the Bourla Theatre by removing the visual noise that had accumulated over previous decades.

The new interventions follow clear lines, reinforcing the existing architecture or connecting to it in a modest and precise manner.

Six new frames, integrated between the existing columns, introduce six functions into the entrance hall: staircase, lift, kitchen, poster wall, service entrance and box office. A mobile, multifunctional piece of furniture occupies the centre of the hall and serves alternately as an additional ticket desk or as seating.

In a second phase, i.s.m.architecten designed an introduction room in the corridor surrounding the theatre.
