AVI is the renovation and extension of a typical Belgian terraced house in Sint-Niklaas, characterised by a succession of additions built over time. The project begins with an act of subtraction: removing these extensions to recover the spatial clarity of the original building.

The new extension is developed around two complementary strategies: spatial organisation and natural light. By introducing an angle into the otherwise linear organisation of the existing house, the extension establishes a more generous space with multiple orientations. Between the old and new volumes, a patio and rooflight bring daylight deep into the centre of the house and the adjoining spaces.

The rear façade consists of three pivoting doors that, when opened, establish a direct connection between the interior and the garden. A continuous polished concrete floor extends from inside to outside, further reinforcing this spatial continuity.
