TONE - A renovation of an entrance hall for Toneelhuis
Commissioned by Toneelhuis and developed in collaboration with graphic designer Jelle Jespers / Ntrakt, the neo-classical front-of-house of the Bourla Theater was carefully stripped of the accumulated visual noise of past decades.
The newly introduced lines are clear and restrained: they reinforce the existing architecture or connect to it in a modest, precise manner.

Six new frameworks, inserted between the existing pillars, accommodate six essential functions within the entrance hall: stairwell, lift, kitchen, poster wall, service entrance, and box office. A centrally positioned mobile, multifunctional piece of furniture acts alternately as an additional ticket desk or as seating.
In a second phase, i.s.m.architecten designed an introduction room, located in the circulation ring surrounding the theatre, further extending the spatial sequence of arrival and orientation.
